Some info about yesterdays upgradeYesterday we upgraded World to CMS 6 R2 (huzzah!), but we also included a tweek on display name and aliases. Your display name will now be, 1) Alias, 2) First name + Last name, 3) part of user name*. Your alias will also used for the profile link. So, instead of the old …/Community-Profile-Card/?encrypedid=3ncryp73d1d, we will now use …/Community-Profile-Card/PappaBj0rn. However, if you havn’t set an alias, we’ll use the old style urls with ?encryptedid. Now, there is a tiny, tiny problem. The my settings page will enter first name + last name by default in your alias field, so many of you will have this set as your alias. The problem is multiple users might share alias as there was no duplicate checks done before this update. But the url …/Community-Profile-Card/Paul Smith can obviously only display one Paul Smith, thusly, all the other Paul Smithes (those not shown) will have to remove their aliases or come up with new ones. Easy peasy. Now, follow rawberts lead and go claim your alias, before any one else does! *Since we don’t want to display your e-mail (which is your username), we’ve previously replaced the domain part with company.com. Community Recognition Program – The Parts You Don’t SeeAs you may or may not have noticed, we’ve just released (Tuesday 20th) our community recognition program (CRP). We’ve published a page <a href="http://world.episerver.com/System/Community-Recognition-Program/">about the community recognition program</a> explaining how to score points etc., but we though we’d show you how it was built. It’s not super advanced or anything, but hopefully it can act as another sample for how to work with the DDS. The contribution object holds info about date, type (blog post, article, etc), pageid (to link a contribution to a page if relevant), points, user and notes (for internal use). As shown in the picture, the DDS also holds the config monster and a book of levels. These two enable us to set how much points each contribution should be worth and how many points you need to advance to a higher level. To make all this work, we’ve used a little something we like to call “code”, Let’s dig in! I didn’t have much choice but to tend to my page tree. The stack trace doesn’t give you much info as to what went wrong, but it also so happens that I use <a href="http://labs.episerver.com/en/Blogs/Allan/Dates/2009/2/Turn-your-User-Controls-into-Dynamic-Content/">Allan’s DCPlugin</a> (which took down my site after the upgrade – fixed it by adding a quick check-for-null-patch), which, just like EnsureAllPageTypeProperties(), juggles with PropertyData. All of this indicates that something is wrong with some of my property types (property plug-ins), and sure enough, after modifying DCPlugin to throw me some detailed info, I found that some modules I was using didn’t work in my current sp2 installation. After removing the corresponding dlls, and the definitions in my database, my page tree sprung to life once more. I’m not sure what was wrong with the modules, and since I’m not sure I’ll be using them I have yet to give a damn. <h2>Bottom line</h2> If something goes wrong in EPiServer.Core.PropertyDataCollection.EnsureAllPageTypeProperties(), something is wrong with your property type(s).2010-03-22T10:18:49.0000000Z

Pixlr Image Editor GadgetIf you haven’t seen it already, there’s a great image editor over at <a href="http://www.pixlr.com">www.pixlr.com</a>, that features a bunch of different tools, layers, filers and much more. Now, wouldn’t it be great to have that inside of EPiServer? Why yes, yes it would! And now you can.   <h2>The Basics</h2> The Pixlr Image Editor Gadget lets you select an image in your site’s VPPs, sent it to the editor and save it back to the VPP. You may even skip the file selection and just open the editor.
