Happy New Year!We're about to enter 2009 here in Scandinavia and our friends in New Zealand, Australia, India and Ukraine have already entered the New Year. 2008 has come to an end and I would like to summarize the year that passed. 2008 was by far the most successful year in the EPiServer history and the product development teams have been - shall we say - busy?  In 2008 we; <ul> <li>announced the EPiServer Most Valued Professional (EMVP) program </li> <li>showed off at the Internet World in London</li> <li>we arranged the 2008 EPiServer Partner & Developer Summits in Stockholm, Sweden, with over 400 attendees from all over the world</li> <li>released our CMS migration tool</li> <li>launched the Create+ package</li> <li>shipped the EPiServer CMS 5 R2 - our best release ever</li> <li>were the biggest group from a single company in Sweden attending the Microsoft PDC in Los Angeles</li> <li>released the long awaited Relate+ package</li> <li>launched two Open Source projects; WikiX and TranslateX and more will follow</li> <li>released the second edition of our connector for Microsoft SharePoint 2007</li> <li>shipped updated versions of EPiBooking and EPiStore for CMS 5</li> <li>saw the birth of EPiServer World (the artist formerly known as Knowledge Center)</li> <li>shipped a few service packs (SP1, SP2 and SP3) for CMS 5</li> <li>launched EPiServer Connect for Microsoft CRM and SalesForce</li> <li>opened offices in Finland, South Africe and the Netherlands</li></ul> I probably forgot one or two very important things but the bottom line says it all. Just Released: EPiServer Connect for SharePoint - the second editionWe've just released the new, improved second edition of EPiServer Connect for SharePoint. This new and improved version of our SharePoint connector contains new and enhanced functionality that will be crucial for common integration scenarios between SharePoint and EPiServer CMS. The connector is contains three main feature areas: <ul> <li>File integration (new!): bi-directional file integration between EPiServer CMS and SharePoint libraries </li><li>Web Parts (new!): simple yet flexible Web Parts that will display EPiServer CMS content directly in SharePoint sites </li><li>Push-to-CMS: push files and content items from SharePoint to EPiServer CMS</li></ul> <h2>File integration</h2> In the connector you will find that we have created a really powerful file integration with SharePoint. It means that CMS users can work on SharePoint files within the EPiServer file manager - check in/check out and versioning implemented as well as security. Also, we have also integrated file search capabilities on the SharePoint assets using the file search inside the CMS file manager. The file integration is built around the Virtual Path Provider (VPP) concept which means you plugin a VPP in CMS which integrates with SharePoint web services. Deployment and configuration is really simple, the package comes with a MSI installer which makes installation really easy. For integrated security you need to configure your servers to use Kerberos authentication and also have an Active Directory that allows account delegation between CMS and SharePoint. Integrated security means that authenticated users in the CMS will also authenticate against the SharePoint server (using delegation). You can also configure the connector to use a service account (all requests to and from the Sharepoint server will be called using this account credentials). <h2>Web Parts</h2> We provide developers with two basic web parts which can be used to display CMS data inside SharePoint. We ship one tree control that renders EPiServer page trees from a selected start page. This web part is connected to a data displaying web part that shows page data inside SharePoint depending on the configuration (which properties to show etc). The web parts are shipped with full source code for developers to customize and modify in a customer solution. These web parts are shipped to help EPiServer and SharePoint developers to kickstart their integration projects. <h2>Push-to-CMS</h2> This functionality allows SharePoint users to easily do one way pushing files and content items from SharePoint to EPiServer CMS. List items will be published in EPiServer CMS as pages and library items will be saved as files in the CMS file system. Tweaking the Image EditorNow that we've been running the CMS 5 R2 for a while, I would like to hint about a small configuration option available for the Image Editor which comes with R2. With the new image editor we've included functions to crop and resize images. By using preset formats it will be easier for editors to resize and crop to most commonly used sizes on the web site. A little nice thing you can do is to configure the preset sizes very easily by modifying the imageEditor section in web.config. Example of preset sizes in web.config. Note: Each preset can have a name as well. If name is left out the preset name will be "width x height". <sizePresets>        <preset name="4:3 320 * 240" width="320" height="240" />        <preset name="4:3 800 * 600" width="800" height="600" />        <preset name="4:3 1280 * 960" width="1280" height="960" />        <preset name="16:9 320 * 180" width="320" height="180" />        <preset name="16:9 800 * 450" width="800" height="450" />        <preset name="16:9 1280 * 720" width="1280" height="720" /> </sizePresets> Oh, you can also set (web.config) the size of the window that is hosting the Image editor, have a look at these settings: windowWidth="900" windowHeight="600" in the ImageEditor section. Another good thing with the Image Editor is that you can separate it to another server in in scenarios where you don't want image operations to burden the live site. But that is another story.
