To my knowledge they do work with EPiServer CMS just fine. I'll ask someone about this.

This is a "doc" bug. I will make sure the text is updated. We support SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 as well as SQL 2005 on any service pack level.

It is not clear for me what database servers exactly are supported. I don't see "SQL server 2008 r2" & "SQL server 2008 r2 SP1" listed as supported.
