Federated security and role based Visitor Groups

We are running EpiServer 9 with federated security using ADFS, set up according to the EpiServer documentation.

When trying to create role based Visitor Groups, EpiServer crashes asking for the RoleManager. 

How can we get role based Visitor Groups to work with federated identities?

I do this in a project but I build those myself and comparing claims inside them.

I do not know if there are any built in version of it
