CMS 11 to 12 Upgrade
I see that I am able to step in couple of initialization modules and then it abrutly exits and i see exception as mentioned above. However this goes through fine on a new database. How can I check the dependency that is causing the null exception.

Do you have explicit GUIDs declared on your content types? I had an issue with that when doing an upgrade a few months ago. I had to go into the CMS11 version, add GUIDs and publish. Then in the CMS12 version, I reused the same GUIDs for the CMS12 version of the content types there.

Yes. Though this may not be the case for this issue specifically, I have experienced such issue when changing the architecture of the existing project which had PropertyDefinitionTypes defined. And we did not include any GUIDs for that (And as at now, even in Optimizely documentation, I could not see anywhere it used GUIDs when defining PropertyLists). I have created this topic as a result of that. And yes, as you have stated, GUIDs matter. And as I think, it is a must to add them before it's too late.
This may become an annoying issue as either we should have more than one deployment to fix this issue in cloud environments or else we should manually change the records in DB.

I was having issues with latest version where DB version was 8011. I did downgrade assemblies couple minor version to where it uses 8009 version of database and that helped resolved the issue. I will research later on why the latest version was throwing error.

I am upgrading a solution from CMS 11 to 12. After ensuring all content types are available in new solution, I am able to launch the site with a brand new empty database. However when I switch to existing database which I had with CMS 11, I am getting initialization error. What could I be missing. I tried to debug through initialization modules but couldn't find anything relevant
