A Surface would be really cool to play with, its a bit pricey right now..

Is there any documentation on using the tool. I see documentation on installing the software but no user's guide. I am especially interested in understanding all the meanings behind the color coding.

You have the documentation for the Scrum for Team System templates over at http://www.scrumforteamsystem.com/ProcessGuidance/v2/ProcessGuidance.aspx. Most of Scrum Dashboard should be self explanatory when you grasp the concepts of the templates. The color coding represents the state of a task as described by the time summary at the top of the dashboard, yellow for "In Progress" etc.
