Updating the Geographic Location Database for the Personalization Feature

EPiServer CMS 6 R2 includes a database containg geographic information created by MaxMind, available from http://www.maxmind.com/. This database is used in the personalization feature to create visitor groups from a specific geographic location. New versions of this database are released every month as the information is continuously updated.

To get the latest geographic information on your website, you can update the database manually in the following way:

  1. Go to MaxMind’s website at http://geolite.maxmind.com/download/geoip/database/GeoLiteCity.dat.gz. Here you will always find the latest database version for free.
  2. Extract the file and replace your current database version at \EPiServer\Framework\6.2.267.1\Geolocation. 

If you want a more accurate version, a license provided by MaxMind is required.
