Performance issues ( cls_contact select)

Hi,

Recently we're running into problems with performance with Epi 10.3 and Azure where we see a lot of calls cls_contact select per request. 
Where is this used, and why? 

New Relic reports that it's called 503 times per request...

Has anyone else run into this issue?
