Search only whole words in control PageSearch

When I tick the box "search only whole words" and search for java* at the developer forum I am supposed to retrieve articles regarding javascript (according to the instructions). I don't. I experience this problem not only here at the EPiServer site but also in two of my implementations. Is this a bug or have I misunderstood the behaviour?
