I believe the limit is 5000 (it was probably 10k before). Are you sure all content were indexed, because some might be excluded

It is officially 10k https://find.episerver.com/

which means you are guaranteed to index 10k content without problems. Some hiccups on the service might allow you to index more than 10k, but that varies and is not guaranteed

It's worth mentioning you can limit the maximum number of versions. The default is 20, but on Dev environments you can often get away with dropping it to 10 or 5.

After you change it, run the Trim Content Versions job, then clear and reindex your Find index. The total indexed items count should drop.
