Default wildcard search in edit mode

When searching with the default seach in edit mode you don't get any hits when searching for "Allo", you need to enter the full "Alloy" to get any hits for pages that contains "Alloy". Using wildcard (*) would do the trick, but to make it more user friendly I would like to default a wildcard at the end (and maybe the beginning) of all search phrases.
Does anyone know if that can be done easily?
