SQL Server Express + Epi7

Hey,

have anybody run Episerver 7 on a SQL Express? It isn`t in the supported list of database engines it support, but I keep finding cases where it worked in older versions of Episerver.

Hi Kristian!

Reading the system requirements for EPi7 you will find that running it on SQL Express for development is supported.

Any of the following is required:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3 Express
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2

NOTE The EPiServer Visual Studio integration SDK installation requires Microsoft SQL Server Express.

But it's not supported for a live site.

I should have specified.

Is it possible to run this on a Production server.

Any of the following is required:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 64 bit*
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 64 bit*
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 64 bit*

* All service packs are supported.

This is server req.

Yes it's possible and would probably work fine. But NOT SUPPORTED. So your a bit more on your own.

Also using SQL Server Express in a shared hosting environment violates the user agreement.

But if you are running dedicated hosing go nuts with express I'm sure it would work well.
