Export/Import Categories

Hey guys,
I'm very new to EPiServer so please bare with me.
I've got EPiServer here at work on two servers. One is DEV the other is STAGING. I've created a lot of categories on DEV and now I want to move them onto STAGING.
I used the "Export Categories" feature from DEV and saved this file to my machine. I then went to STAGING and used "Import Categories".
The result tells me that "380 categories were imported" and it says the import was succesfull.
When I then look at the category list, only a few of the 380 were really imported. The rest of them just arn't there.
When I go to the database to check the tblCategories, again, they are not there.
Is this something I'm not doing correctly or have other people had this problem too?
Any help would be fantastic.
