Trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed

Searching for all users in Admin Mode shown the error "Trust relationship between the primary domain and the trusted domain failed" when the list shows users that are part of the WindowsMembershipProvider.
The server is domain joined and the SQL and Web servers are in two different virtual machines.
Any thoughts?
