Categorised page sorter

Vote:

Hi All,

I am moving quite a lot of pages using standard Categorised page sorter. As you can imagine it takes time to move item number let say 50 up to position number 1. You have to do 50 clicks and quite a lot of scrolling. Is there any plug-in maybe for CMS 5 which gives you drag-n-drop functionality. Or maybe is it already implemented in CMS 6?

Thanks for any advance.

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question. But EPiServer 6 includes drag and drop page sorting. It also has drag and drop sorting of page properties when editing page types.

For drag-n-drop sorting of properties in CMS5, I recommend EPiCode.EditPageType util, which you can read about here: http://www.epinova.no/blog/thomas-leela/dates/2009/4/no-more-mouse-arm-during-reorganization-of-page-type-properties/

For drag-n-drop sorting of pages in CMS5, this module by Allan Thraen should help you out: http://labs.episerver.com/en/Blogs/Allan/Dates/112230/10/Drag-amp-Drop-Sorting-of-Child-Pages/

In CMS6, both these features are included, as David points out.

Thanks guys, but this is something else I think. I know about sorting children pages in CMS6 and the examples you gave me are perfect for that but I am talking about Categorised page sorter which I think is slightly different (Not sure though). It's the place where you can list all the pages of particular page type and with specified category tag selected and then you can move them one-by-one up and down to the required order.

We have projects tagged with different categories (architecture, interior design, lighting, etc). They are stored in epiServer “tree” in alphabetical order. However we can display them on the website by service type as well (architecture, lighting, etc.). And that’s where we are using that Categorised page sorter.

Hmm, not sure if that makes more sense. If not I will try to link some screenshots maybe.

Anders Hattestad has a blog post about extending the built-in category functionailty to be able to categorize the content:

http://labs.episerver.com/en/Blogs/Anders-Hattestad/Dates/2009/3/Category---more-than-labeling/

There are code samples available for download. You could see if this fits your needs..

It does not give you drag-n-drop functionality but it would probably sort your pages on-the-fly (as they are created).

Who made the Customised page sorter plugin in the first place? That definitely looks custom made.
