Are you a developer? Here is what you need to know:
It’s long been a request to enable developer teams to work natively on both Windows and MacOS depending on personal preferences. With CMS 12 and Commerce 14 running on .NET 5 it’s much easier to share a single code base, but across different editors and operating systems.
Optimizely is migrating its add-on packages to .NET 5 throughout 2021. See Optimizely apps and integrations for the migration status of the packages.
As Optimizely releases the .NET 5 code base, plugins and add-ons are dependent on their creators to ensure that they are compatible with the new version. Contact the creator of the plugins/add-ons you are interested in for more information.
The packages were released on September 28, 2021 and are available on our NuGet feed (CMS and Commerce). You can find sample codes on GitHub.
The Upgrade Assistant tool can help automate the transition from a CMS 11 project to CMS 12. Although the tool does help with the common tasks related to the migration, expect that there will still be some manual migration tasks that need to be performed. The move to .NET 5 also requires some changes to the PaaS environments for existing customers. Self-service tooling for transitioning to a .NET 5 environment is planned for later in the year.
Our intent is to have no breaking changes, however see Breaking changes in Content Cloud (CMS 12) for changes when you upgrade.
We have released our first wave of .NET 6 support on our Content Cloud (version 12.4.0). Read more about it as our VP of Software Engineering, Magnus Rahl gives you an overview of how to prepare for .NET 6, what support is released so far, choosing .NET 5 or .NET 6, and how to start using .NET 6 today.
