EPiServerProfile not working after upgrade to 9.12

The save didnä't work because I had an open Profile open when calling other methods opening a new profile.
Have been working for a year but now it does not. Must have something to do with the upgrade (from 8.4) to 9.12...

.Save() does not save... and profile.Firstname is empty... and debugging says "all threads must be running to evaluate"... haven't seen that before either
Any breaking changes?
