Categories on page editing

I find it a hassle to apply categories on a page in EPi 7.

Is it possible to create a on-page-control for it - or linking from on-page-edit-mode to the form edit mode?

And - oh - sometimes the toggle button for on-page/form edit doesnt work. Havent figured out why.
