Extend XForm fields with extra properties

Hi.

I have read this post by Jacob Khan and seen that it possible to add extra validators to an XForm. Is it possible to extend the XForm field controls with an extra property in the XForm editor? Now all the controls have the Name, Heading, ToolTip etc. properties. I want to add one more property to the controls. Does anyone know if that is possible?
