Parsing Xhtmlproperty content to use in mail

Is there an easy way to get content from a Xhtml property translated so that the links work externally. We send an email from code an would like to include links and images that editors create, in the mail. Is there a method or do we have to use regex to translate the urls to direct ones?

Try to use EPiServer.Global.UrlRewriteProvider.GetHtmlRewriter().RewriteString() method on the whole email body text.
