Virtual Path Provider pointing to other, passwordprotected server?

Hello,

I'm trying to setup a Virtual path provider to a folder on an external server where we have to provide a username and password to connect to it. Does anyone know if this is possible with the default providers that are available or do we have to develop something on our own?
