Is it possible to run plugins built for CMS 5 R2 in CMS 6?

Hi

CMS 6 is designed to be backwards compatible to CMS 5 R2. So plugins made for CMS 5 R2 should work with CMS6 as well. There will be some slight breaking changes, but those will be documented and hopefully wont effect old plugins.

The only non-working issue I can see without testing is that plugins to the old EPiServer CMS 5 editor will not work in the new TinyMCE editor in CMS 6. (If you have very important plugins for the old editor you can keep the old editor in CMS 6 until you have made new plugins for Tiny and do the change of editor then. )

Thanks for the replies so far!

Is there anything more to be done, than to install the selected plug-in in EPiServer CMS with existing tools. We have tried to install a plug-in for ManageLanguages, it does not appear in Admin mode. We have downloaded the source code and compiled it against EPiServer CMS 6 .dll files.

Hoping for some guidance on the matter.

There should be no difference than CMS 5 R2 as far as I know. So first, check that the dll containing the plugins exists in the site's bin folder. If it does, go to Admin Mode -> Config -> Tool Settings -> Plug-in Manager and check the the assembly shows up there and that the plugins are enabled.

That could give some clues as to where it's going wrong.
