Deploying site to another environment and changing DB breaks images

Site built locally using a remote DB and works fine. When i deploy it, along with all the assets (Global Files, Page Files etc) to another server and move the DB over the site wont load any of these assets. Rather than resolving the URL of the asset's source it returns "~/link/{GUID}.jpg".
Pointing the newly deployed site back to the old DB works fine.
Any ideas?
