New Laws for the use of cookies and other technologies

Hi

First of all I want to say that I don’t know where to put this topic. So any admin feel free to move this thread.

I could not find any useful info about Episerver and this new law that has come into place as of 26 of may 2011.

  • Will there be a feature that helps us with get user consent to cookies?
  • Can anyone point to a site that has make actions to be compliant to the new law?

If anyone can share some light on this or point me in the right directions I would be grateful.

From http://www.allaboutcookies.org/

On May 26th 2011, new rules governing the use of cookies by websites comes into force in Europe.

Rather than the "Opt out" option for website visitors, websites will need to specifically gain the consent of their visitor and they must "Opt In" to be able to store cookies on their computer or other devices. This is expected to be difficult to manage and enforcement will more than likely be done subtlely and with encouragement rather than with the threat of fines and penaltys.

I know that this is new and that it is quite vague what is required. The feel that I get is that everyone is waiting to see what will be the standard solution for this.

A built in feature for us that uses Episerver would be very nice. But a recommendation how to make our sites more compliant to the new law with existing technology could by a good first step.

In the UK at least people seem to be taking a "wait and see" approach, including the government:
