Local or Global security groups in AD

Hi,
I have a site that uses windows authentication. It's using two domains in a mutual trust. I can retrieve all user groups from the AD.
The site is in domain1, and user from that domain had no problem logging in. User from domain2 though was not able to log in to the site. But when we changed the user's Security Group Global to Security Group Local, access was no problem anymore.
Is this behaviour due to EpiServer by any chance?? Seen this prblem before?
I don't have full knowledge about the Active directories
