Question about specific SQL requirements for CMS 5

Just wondering if there are any recommendations regarding use of shared SQL-database server for CMS and other systems/applications (with different DBs) or is this configuration not supported at all? And which collation should be used when creating database for CMS and must it be the same as server collation?
