Adding customized widget onto same page twice not working

I customized the list summary widget and am trying to have multiple occurances of it on the same page, but only the second occurance is working properly. When I try to edit the first occurance by using the pencil icon, it actually updates the second occurance instead. Any ideas on why this is happening or how I can debug this?
